The award recognizes works that demonstrate practical results and excellence in the application of project management approaches

The Project of the Year Award ranked the Renova Foundation’s forest restoration and environmental recovery program, carried out in partnership with Progen, as one of the three best projects in Brazil. Organized by Project Design Management Magazine, the award recognizes works that show practical results and excellence in the application of project management approaches. The initiative was evaluated by more than 20 professionals from renowned institutions such as the Project Management Institute (PMI-SP), Universidade de São Paulo (USP), Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGV), Associação Internacional de Gestão de Projetos, among others.

Among the outstanding practices is the training of around 900 farming families through Technical Assistance and Rural Extension (ATER). The action enabled the productive re-inclusion and contributed to the promotion of the local economy, the monitoring of the evolution of the areas through drones, the end-to-end management, in addition to the elaboration of a georeferenced map that is fed in real time via cell phone by the professionals from Progen who are in the field.

According to the Forest Restoration coordinator at the Renova Foundation, José Almir Jacomelli Junior, the management carried out has a high capacity for relationships with different social actors, which include large, medium and small rural producers, land reform settlers and indigenous communities, contributing to the success of a complex governance network that involves different audiences.

The partnership between Renova Foundation and Progen has been achieving assertive results, in addition to the opportunity to train several professionals, including local ones, leaving a legacy with the knowledge acquired from more than 100 professionals currently mobilized. “The project has the potential to become a model for intervention in parks and natural areas, both for preservation and for recovery and restoration”, comments Fabrício Bistene, director of construction management at Progen.

The project is carried out in more than 30 municipalities in Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo, considering the period from July 2020 to June 2022, evaluated in the award. The participating counties are: Aimorés, Alpercata, Belo Oriente, Bugre, Campanário, Conselheiro Pena, Fernandes Tourinho, Frei Inocêncio, Galiléia, Governador Valadares, Ipaba, Itambacuri, Itueta, Jampruca, Naque, Parakeet, Resplendor, Rio Doce, Santa Cruz do Escalvado, Santana do Paraíso, Sem Peixe, Tumiritinga, Mariana, Barra Longa, Coimbra and Viçosa, in Minas Gerais.
