About four thousand people will benefit in Regência and Povoação
Projects suggested by the Povoação and Regência communities, in Linhares (ES), will make it from paper to reality in the coming months. The actions were conceived to minimize the effects caused by the Fundão dam collapse on tourism and fishing and generate job and income opportunities. The investment in new businesses, infrastructure works, training and dissemination is R$ 3.5 million. About 4 thousand people are to benefit.
The leader of the territory, Nilo Luís Paiva de Carvalho, highlights the aquaponics project, a system that integrates pisciculture (fish farming) and hydroponics (plant crops with roots submerged in water). “It’s a very interesting project. We have a closed cycle in which the water with fish feces, rich in nutrients feeding the plants, is filtered by the roots and back to the tank. We will generate labor for fishermen and for other people of the municipality work in the vegetable garden”, he explains.
In addition to aquaponics, other ideas from the community will be put into practice:
• Sewing groups
• Beekeeping
• Reactivation of community garden
• Playground in Povoação
• Renovation of Water Treatment Plant in Regência
• Professional qualification
• Landscape design in Regência
• Historic street in Povoação
