Social Assistance

The actions of the Social Protection program aim to reduce the impact caused by the way of life of citizens and situations of risks

As part of Social Assistance actions, Social Protection takes care of the prevention and reduction of the impacts that situations of risks can cause to the living conditions of individuals and families. The consequences of the Fundao dam collapse go beyond environmental and physical damage, they affect the way of life of those affected and especially impair those who depend on public welfare programs, who previously were already exposed to vulnerable contexts. Disasters and situations of social insecurities that result from them affect the ability of families to cope with stress, to overcome violent acts and separations, and to overcome prejudices and stigmas, demanding differentiated and adequate attention to expand and strengthen their capacity to deal with damages, reestablish social bonds and make live plans for their future.

In order to present the vulnerabilities map, identifying the impacted territories of each municipality, and presenting the matrix of integrated reparation actions for affected families during the months of November and December, the Renova Foundation conducts a series of workshops with municipal social assistance managers.

Erenice Maria de Souza, social worker in Periquito, participated in the last week of the meeting in Governador Valadares (MG) and seeks to find solutions to family problems. “I hope we can work together and really propose actions that can be undertaken,” she says.
