Court ruling ordered the removal of the barrier for safety reasons

On December 3rd, the second stage of the decommissioning works of the Pequeno River barrier in Linhares (ES) began. Expected to last up to 30 days, removal takes place after the completion of the first stage of the installation of the coffer base downstream (below) the current structure with the approval of Aecom, which acts as a judicial expert.

The cofferdam is a temporary structure that prevents the contact between the Doce River waters and the Juparana Lagoon. If necessary, the cofferdam will be raised.

The Renova Foundation’s action to ensure the safety of the works and the families in its surroundings is carried out by professionals of the Infrastructure, Engineering, Dialogue, Health, Social Protection, Environment, Safety and Contingency areas.

The decision issued by the 12th Federal Court of Belo Horizonte/MG determined the removal of the barrier in two stages, after analysis by specialized companies pointed to structural risks that could cause its collapse and endanger the integrity of the surrounding residents.
