Items such as food, cleaning products and furniture were purchased from local suppliers to boost the region’s economy.
In the first half of this year, ten suppliers of the Renova Foundation with contracts in excess of R$3 million supported social projects and institutions in Mariana, Minas Gerais. Six institutions received food, hygiene and cleaning items, machinery, furniture, goods and utensils and works or repairs were carried out. Around R$35,000 were invested in materials purchased from local suppliers as a way to boost the region’s economy.
The social contributions are provided for in the Mariana Agreement, signed by the Renova Foundation, City Council, Mariana Service Providers and Equipment Rental Association (Ampla), Commercial, Industrial and Agricultural Association of Mariana (Aciam), Metabase Union and the Institute for Integrated Development of Minas Gerais (INDI). The document also establishes the prioritization of hiring local labor and suppliers to carry out repair activities for the damage caused by the Fundao dam collapse.
