Improvements to land features and strengthening of vegetation are among the initiatives
As part of the work plan focused on the resumption of agricultural activities in the regions impacted by the collapse of the Fundão dam a complete survey was made of all farmers who use the Gualaxo, Carmo and Doce Rivers for irrigation of their land. The study shows the impacts to properties caused by the passage of the turbidity plume, both the loss of production as well as damage to the land and equipment.
The survey complies with clause 180 of the Transaction and Conduct Adjustment Term (TTAC) and is allocated to the Water Quality Research program, which monitors the quality of rivers in the affected stretch. The properties located up to one kilometer of each river bank were considered. The next phase will begin with the implementation of reparation and compensatory measures for caused damage.
Among the proposed repair actions are the improvement of the land features and the strengthening of vegetation to prevent erosion. There may also be financial compensation for the period without production, the drilling of boreholes, the repair of irrigation systems and technical monitoring by agronomists for up to two years. All work will be presented to the Inter-federative Committee for approval.
