Access to indemnity
Those affected by agricultural damage who wish to claim indemnity from the Renova Foundation have two options available: the Simplified Indemnity System and the Mediated Indemnity Program, via PIM/AFE System, which work through platforms on the Renova Foundation website. In both cases, access must be provided by an attorney or public defender. All service is online and the documents necessary for the indemnity process must be sent through the platforms, where the terms of acceptance are also signed.
In the Simplified Indemnity System, which serves the informal public, the amount of compensation for agriculture for own consumption is R$ 54,082.13. The value for agriculture for informal commercialization is R$ 94,195.00. Those who had formal agriculture as their activity may present or request a report/inspection, proving their direct dependence on the water of the Doce River, its tributaries and/or the estuarine region.
By decision of the Court, the Simplified Indemnity System will be terminated in stages, to ensure that all locations have the same membership deadline. In Baixo Guandu (ES), after 30 months for applications, the deadline ended on December 31, 2022, with more than 9,500 compensation payments, which totaled around R$ 950 million. In Naque, Minas Gerais, the access period ended on January 9 of this year.
Anti fraud
The Renova Foundation has teams dedicated to verifying information and documents sent by people requesting compensation through the Mediated Indemnity Program and the Simplified Indemnity System. The aim is to prevent fraud and detect risks or suspicious situations, ensuring financial compensation for those who have suffered damage. The responsibility for the veracity of the information lies with the claimant. Cases identified as fraud attempts are forwarded to the responsible bodies.
Attempts at fraud can be reported through the Ombudsman’s Officechannel, by calling 0800 721 0717 or by email: ouvidoria@fundacaorenova.org, which will investigate the case. The report can be anonymous.
