Flood warning system measures the level and flow of points subject to flooding
A flood warning system is being implemented in the Carmo River basin, in the region of Mariana and Barra Longa (MG), in order to facilitate decision-making in cases of increased river levels. On Wednesday (02/08), the Renova Foundation organized training on the subject in Mariana for the internal team and Civil Defense of the two towns.
Developed by a consulting expert, the system seeks to share information with Civil Defense and other relevant institutions to minimize possible losses due to natural floods. Formed by stations which measure the level and flow of points subject to flooding, installed at strategic spots along the Gualaxo River and Carmo River, the system began its assembly in December 2016 and is in its final phase of implementation.
The system consists of three steps: data collection (automatic equipment, real-time monitoring of rainfall, flow and level), data processing (analysis and consistency of information, hydraulic calculations and modeling and prediction of flow rates) and data transmission (communication to responsible teams).
