The championship for amateur and sport fishermen will take place from the 11th to the 24th of this month in lakes of the municipality.
The first edition of the sport fishing tournament will take place in two great postcards of the city of Linhares, municipality of Espírito Santo, the Nova and Juparanã lakes. 300 vacancies were made available for sport fishermen from all over the country, in the categories embarked and disembarked, duly licensed.
The dispute will take place in the catch and release model, and the competitors will have to prove the fish caught through videos, also using a ruler specific to the tournament. The lakes that hosted the championship offer participants easy access to water through ramps for amateur/sport fishing vessels and the availability of the three iconic species of sport fishing: sea bass, peacock bass and traíras.
In addition to encouraging and attracting fans to the practice of catch and release, the event aims to promote local tourism and environmental preservation. Linhares is home to the largest freshwater lake in the country, which is Juparanã, and the municipality with the most lakes in Espírito Santo.
“The realization of the Linhares Sport Fishing Tournament, linked to fishing tourism in the region, will encourage economic dynamism, new possibilities for income generation, as well as the dissemination of other tourist potentials in the region, local development and the appreciation of the intangible heritage”, highlights Érika Carvalho Boechat, Education, Culture and Tourism analyst at the Renova Foundation.
Children’s Fishing Tournament and knowledge sharing
The event’s program includes workshops and the Children’s Fishing Tournament with the participation of students from the municipal education network, in order to encourage the transmission of knowledge between generations. The initiative is part of the Renova Foundation’s Sport and Amateur Fishing Recovery project, and is carried out by the company Igarapesca and supported by the Municipality of Linhares.
In addition to the event, qualification courses will be held with local fishermen, aiming at their inclusion in the fishing tourism production chain, carried out by Igarapesca.
