Competition strengthened sustainability, tourism and social development in the region
In August, the city of Linhares (ES) hosted the II Sport Fishing Tournament , which brought together 257 participants to compete in fish categories such as Tucunaré, Dourado, Robalo and Traíra. The event, which aimed to promote tourism and sport fishing in the region, distributed 40 awards and made significant contributions to the local community.
Fishermen from different locations, with a valid amateur/sport fishing license, had access to permitted fishing areas, which include the Nova, Juparanã, Palmas and Palminhas lagoons, in addition to the Doce river channel, limited to the municipality of Linhares.
In this edition, female participation stands out, reinforcing inclusion and the growth of interest in the practice, in addition to the participation of 70 fishermen from other regions. In addition to promoting tourism and boosting the economy in the region, the initiative collected around 1.3 tons of food, donated to local institutions, which will benefit more than 500 people in the community.
The initiative is a catalyst for economic growth and visibility for Linhares, boosting local commerce and the production chain, in addition to promoting sustainable fishing by encouraging the practice of catch and release.
Importance of the initiative for the region
The second edition of the Sport Fishing tournament, carried out between August 9 and 21, 2024, is part of the actions to recover sport and amateur fishing, which include three pillars: the tournament as a promotional event; participation in industry fairs, as publicity; and training as workforce formation. The tournament was organized by the tourism agency IGARAPESCA and established itself as an important catalyst for growth and visibility for Linhares.
