The expectation is that about 85% of eligible people will accept the PIM proposals
In the municipalities of Linhares and Baixo Guandu, in Espírito Santo, and of Barra Longa in Minas Gerais, the first negotiations for payment of general damages provided for by the Mediated Indemnity Program (PIM) have started.
The meetings between the Renova Foundation representatives and the families aim to establish an indemnity agreement, without the procedures and costs of a lawsuit. For the processes to be conducted in an agile and transparent manner, all the institution’s analysts have received training.
“One of the main challenges of our routine is to compensate the people affected with the sense of urgency that the situation requires, but in an organized and fair manner. For this, we rely on the participation of the communities and entities of reference to contribute to the development of the indemnity criteria”, says Sérgio Pires, one of the PIM coordinators.
In the second phase of the program about 70 negotiations will be started. In the coming weeks, negotiations will start in Colatina, Espírito Santo, and Aimorés, in Minas Gerais. Other negotiations will start as soon as PIM receives the data from the Registration of Impacted Parties Program.
The expectation is that at least 85% of people eligible to participate will accept the proposals presented by the program. After signing the agreement, the payment will be made within a maximum period of 90 days.
