A new pipeline on the Guandu River is under construction and will bring an alternative to the city’s water supply

A work to capture alternative water will benefit around 31 thousand inhabitants in Baixo Guandu, in Espírito Santo. The new pipeline will form part of the current water supply system in the region, bringing yet another possibility of capturing the resource from the Guandu River.

The choice of the watercourse for alternative water withdrawal was made after technical studies, as it has sufficient water flow to supply the city, as recommended in the Transaction and Conduct Adjustment Agreement (TTAC), if necessary. Currently, Baixo Guandu uses the water captured from the Doce River as a source of supply for the population. With the new pipeline, there will be one more possibility of abstraction, which will be used as defined by the municipal service provider.

Approximately R$ 4 million will be invested in the work, which is already in the infrastructure execution phase, with earthmoving, pipe welding and excavation. The project also provides for the installation of an electrical panel room, a measuring cabin and floating pumps, as well as the installation of piping leaving the Guandu River and taking the raw water to the Water Treatment Station (ETA), at the headquarters of the city, to be treated. After the structural phase, the commissioning phase will be carried out to verify the operation of the entire system, with electrical and hydraulic analyses. The next stage is defined as assisted operation, when the technical team from the Autonomous Water and Sewage Service (SAAE) of Baixo Guandu will operate the system, with the Renova Foundation monitoring and supporting the process. The last stage will be the official delivery by the Renova Foundation of the pipeline on the Guandu River to the municipality and the community.

In addition to being a commitment signed with the City Hall and SAAE, the works comply with clause 171 of the Transaction and Conduct Adjustment Agreement (TTAC), which determines the construction of alternative systems for capturing, supplying and improving water treatment stations for the locations affected by the Fundao dam collapse and which capture water directly from the Doce River.

Once the delivery is made, the municipal entity assumes the operation, conservation and maintenance of the new system. The pipeline works are expected to be completed by the first half of 2024.
