The Renova Foundation regrets to inform that the Assembly for the Validation of the Urban Project of Bento Rodrigues, to be held this Saturday, January 27th, in Mariana (MG), has been canceled.

Considering all the steps that need to be complied with, and that were agreed upon with the involved parties, the Foundation believes this meeting to be essential. However, respecting the decision of the Commission of Affected Parties of Bento Rodrigues, instructed by the Public Prosecution Office of Mariana, not to hold the vote on the scheduled date, and in consideration of the physical integrity of all those involved, Renova agreed with the cancellation of the meeting.

Renova informs that in a meeting held this Friday, January 26, at the Attorney General’s Office of the Minas Gerais Prosecution Service, a meeting was scheduled for 2/1, with the participation of the Commission of Affected Parties, Public Prosecution Office of Mariana, the Deputy Attorney General’s Office, the Public Prosecution Office of Social Mobilization, the Mariana Case Task Force Coordination and the Renova Foundation, to deal with the continuity of the resettlement process.

The assembly for validation of the urban project had been agreed upon in the Working Group with the Commission of Affected Parties, on 1/3/18, with the presence of the technical advisory body of affected parties (Caritas), the Public Prosecution Office of Mariana and the Renova Foundation.

The approval of the project is a fundamental condition for the continuation of the resettlement process. The concept of the urban project was discussed during 23 workshops held in November and December 2017, in which 164 families participated.

The project that was designed for the new district is based on preserving, as far as possible, the cultural and social characteristics of the Bento Rodrigues community. Thus, neighborhoods relations, the distribution of public facilities, the original characteristics and the patrimonial, urbanistic and cultural aspects were maintained.
