RFP for research studies in the area affected by the Fundao dam collapse
The Renova Foundation and the Foundation for Supporting Research and Innovation of Espirito Santo (Fapes), with the support of the Foundation for the Supporting Research and Innovation of Espirito Santo (Fapes) and the governments of the States of Minas Gerais and Espirito Santo, signed an agreement of technical cooperation to select research, educational and extension projects to trace the epidemiological and sanitary profile – retrospective, current and prospective – of the residents from Mariana to the Doce River Mouth. The main objective of the agreement is to assess the risks and correlations arising from the Fundao dam collapse in Mariana (MG), and to respond to the demands of the government and the affected population in relation to the possible impacts.
Fapes and Fapemig will be responsible for preparing the RFP for the selection of research projects in Espirito Santo and Minas Gerais. The Renova Foundation will allocate a total of R$ 15 million to research institutions to carry out the planned studies that will include epidemiology, mental health, worker health and toxicology. The RFP for institutions interested in participating in the selection process should be published in the coming months.
